Located so close to Santorini and yet is so far from the frenzied pace in which the "opposite" live . As if the eruption in 1613 BC was so decisive that the two islands were destined to be apart, not only in a geological way but also in a cultural way.



Once you set foot on Thirassia you will notice right away that this is not a tourist area. Wandering in the narrow streets of villages like Potamo, Agrilia, and Manola, you will see only authentic locals. The bellhouses and the mansions are colored in intense hues of blue, yellow and green. The “altanes” are also complimentary colorful .



Potamos village is the first inhabited village you will meet and is named so because it is built in on a ravine. The houses are mostly cavehouses. The most famous churches of Patomos are the Panagia Giatrissa and Saint Dimitrios.



Agrilia is the oldest and largest settlement of Thirassia. It is a very picturesque landscape with houses and hemps. You will find the Virgin Mary of Esodion or the Virgin Mary of Lagada with its special architecture, dating from 1887.



The capital, Manolas, is located on the cliffs overlooking Santorini. In the same location is the church of St. Constantine dating from 1874.



The Kera or Keradiana was a residential about thirty to forty years ago. Now it holds many memories of that time but still has excellent views.



The islands' only visitors are the house-owners, relatives and people arriving by tourist boats to make a simple stroll.



The island has twenty churches and when one of them is celebrating, all the locals participate.



To visit Manolas you take a small boat and disembark at Korfo, from there you have only two options to reach Manolas. One is by donkey riding and the other is on foot. Alternatively you can visit Riva, the main port of Thirassia. It is accesible by ferryboat departing from Athinios, or with the frequently scheduled (at least three daily) small boats, departing from Amoudi. There you will find a sandy beach and the church of Agia Irini. Do not forget to visit the monastery of Kimitheos, which is accesible from Manola by a path. For a comprehensive tour of the island the monastery is a must see and the effort is worth wile.



In Thirassia there is a Regional Medical Center, fully equipped, heliport, a central water supply facility, a cottage overlooking the Caldera, Citizens Service Center of Oia (KEP) and cash mashines.
